Vedantu has expanded its offering of school subjects to include extracurricular classes like art, public speaking and creative writing, among others, and plans to raise a new round of funding soon.

WhiteHat Jr, owned by BYJU, also launched online music lessons last month. Vedantu competes directly with WhiteHat Jr and BYJU’S in the K12 segment. According to reports, Vedantu was in acquisition talks with edtech major BYJU’S. However, Vedantu has denied any such acquisition plans and said the company will be lifting a new round of funding instead.

Extra-curricular courses

The program, launched under the title V-Nurture and Super School, adds 16 new courses to the platform. Speaking about the vision behind this launch, Vedantu Co-Founder and Product Manager Pulkit Jain said the idea is to create plenty of opportunities for young learners to explore their talents and also create a learning environment. holistic learning for Vedantu students.

“School is not just about studies, students also evolve as individuals because of the opportunities and possibilities for exploration available to them. This is why we have used the word “school” in the name of the program. We want to provide every Vedantu student with a holistic learning environment, ”said Jain Activity area.

New Course List Includes Public Speaking, Vedic Mathematics, Personality Development, Astronomy World, Art Journaling, Two Secrets to Success, Learning Science with DIY Experiments, Folk Art and international, entrepreneurship, being a creative writer, an introduction to debate, the Sanskrit language, the basics of hand-drawing, self-defense and financial literacy.

New areas of investment

Jain noted that the V-Nurture and Super School courses, along with the technology and products, will be some of the areas for the company to invest after the new fundraiser. “We are investing a lot in changing the way teaching and learning should take place, and new courses will also be one of our areas of investment,” he added.

As school education moved online after the pandemic, extracurricular classes became non-existent for most children. Since 2020, a group of new start-ups offering such non-academic courses have raised funds in this emerging segment, including Yellow Class, Frontrow and Kyt.

The program started in Vedantu last year, as a free-spirited initiative, where teachers held workshops on topics they were interested in or had teaching experience. The initial pilot workshops were only open to existing Vedantu students and would have engaged 80% of existing students. The V-Nurture program is for students in Grades 6 through 13, and classes for students in Kindergarten through Grade 8 are called Super School. Classes are currently offered as free live lessons.

“We have kept these classes free, so that there is less resistance among students to try these classes, outside of their regular school subjects. It is certainly not a revenue issue for us, as we already have paid courses. More than that, such courses will help us engage students more deeply with the Vedantu platform, ”Jain said.

Live online learning platform

Founded in 2011, Vedantu is a live online learning platform launched with the aim of providing affordable quality education to students across India. The company offers one-to-one and group classes in Kindergarten to Grade 12 and test preparation segments. The company’s platform would be able to track student engagement, teacher and content effectiveness, and other data related to class activities.

The company follows a multi-teacher model for conducting its classes, where the main teacher (master teacher) teaches a concept, and then students are algorithmically divided into small groups to work with their teachers on classroom activities or on the resolution of doubts. BYJU’S also recently launched a two-teacher-like model for its online course program, BYJU’S Classes.

Vedantu claims to have 150,000 students studying on the platform every month and over 30 million users every month in over 1,000 cities and over 40 countries with free access to content, tests, quizzes and videos on Vedantu’s platform and its YouTube channels. The company was last valued at $ 600 million in its $ 100 million funding round in 2020. Vedantu is backed by a group of investors including Coatue, Tiger Global, GGV Capital, Omidyar and Westbridge Capital .
