Online education is distance education via the Internet and a computer. All global companies, educational institutions and tutors choose partial or full implementation of e-learning. And it’s not just because of the need caused by the pandemic. The online course format is sometimes the best and, of course, a more economical option for training staff and students. Teachers master the creation of their courses, organize webinars, share their experiences and earn a lot of money.
So here are the pros and cons of virtual learning:
The positives of e-learning:
You can choose the learning regime yourself
A predictable and calm atmosphere often reigns at home. The student develops his rhythm and follows it without additional worries, whether he has time for something or not. It’s possible to feel how cool it is when you need to shape your day not by the school bell and class breaks, but by you. But this point cannot be said as online school pros.
Teachers and parents can identify and work on the child’s weaknesses during learning
Online learning shows in which subjects the child knows the ideal and where there are gaps, which must be taken into account. Parents can control educational process and notice how attentive the child is while learning. Or distracted and unable to concentrate for a long time, negatively affecting the outcome.
Repetition is the basis of learning
When something is unclear, children at school are often embarrassed to ask the teacher to explain the material to them again. But online, you can listen to the lesson as many times as you need. And the student can repeat the material at any time to refresh the memory of specific dates, facts, rules.
Reduces mental and physical stress
Parents do not need to persuade children to get up early. The child has the opportunity to wake up at eight o’clock and happily join the training. And by saving time on the way to school, children have free time for other activities.
Learning to learn is not just a cutting-edge skill for the future. The current generation of students has the opportunity to pump this skill, learning more on their own in a properly organized “distance”. And distance learning allows students to deepen their knowledge in the subjects that interest them most.
Disadvantages of e-learning:
Lack of socialization
In offline school life, children learn to work in teams, solve problems and interact with each other. When it comes to distance education, they don’t have many opportunities to learn those skills that are a big part of teenage life.
too many gimmicks
Online learning forces school children to sit in front of screens for days on end, which damages eyesight. In addition, after online classes, children continue to relax with gadgets. As a result, the service life of the devices is almost doubled.
Not enough practice
For the most part, there is no practice when studying online. Of course, the teacher tries to explain the subject. But there are many situations where children have dropped the paragraph and they have to learn all the material on their own. And sometimes kids have problems writing essays and they can’t come to see the teacher like in offline schools. But now there are many possibilities to get writing help, for example, a college writing platform, which can help you a lot. This way, you can’t worry about your grades.
Lack of adult authority
To teach effectively, children need someone they trust and who is not afraid to make mistakes in their presence. And when kids are sitting in Zoom with the video turned off, it’s hard to create an atmosphere of trust.
We have not yet developed a single technology for the transition from offline to online
Most teachers are still confused when asked how to integrate effectively into the new learning process. Many teachers even struggled to teach at ZOOM. Therefore, we can only wait for a single system with a detailed distance learning methodology to be introduced at the state level.
The transition to online education therefore has many positive sides. But for students to be comfortable, schools should teach teachers how to use technology. In this way, online learning will be better than offline and help students save time and have more leisure time.
