A new outdoor learning environment for students at Bishop’s Stortford College Pre-Prep was unveiled this week.

Development of the Early Years Core Stage at Bishop’s Stortford College Pre-Prep began in 2015, with a need to create an outdoor space that was a supportive environment for students comprising four key areas: quiet space; a growing natural area; an investigative playground on sand, water and mud; and a physical play and construction area.

The design incorporates multiple areas and various types of playgrounds and learning equipment, all chosen to reflect and enhance students’ early development.

Students have access to climbing apparatus to further challenge their physical development, as well as a wobbly bridge that leads to the Wild Area, where students will study minibeasts and plants.

The new learning environment will provide students with the opportunity to develop their own play and independent exploration.

Head of Pre-Preparation, Belinda Callow, said: “Pre-Preparation is a magical learning environment, where children are nurtured and can safely investigate, explore and discover.

“High quality teaching and learning is enhanced by well-equipped classrooms and an incredible team of teachers.

“We are thrilled to now have an outdoor play area that reflects this excellence in the classroom.

“What a fantastic environment for children to grow in, creating a wonderful base on which to thrive on their learning journey.
