Most WCDSCB schools will close on Monday as online learning begins

Asynchronous learning instructions will be provided to families by 10:30 a.m. on Monday

Wellington District Catholic School Board schools in Guelph, Erin and Rockwood will close in-person learning on Monday.

“At this time, we expect the strike to continue into next week and will not be able to keep the schools at a required level without our CUPE caretakers and maintenance staff,” the update read.

Non-CUPE member schools and St. John Bosco High School will remain open.

Transportation for students attending CUPE schools will be canceled for the duration of the closure. Before and after school programs will be closed and canceled extracurricular and athletic activities postponed. Child care programs at Sacred Heart Rockwood and St. Michael Guelph will, however, remain open.

Asynchronous learning instructions will be provided to families by 10:30 a.m. on Monday. If the closure extends beyond one day, a schedule of “synchronous learning opportunities for the coming days” will be provided.

Each school will provide individual information regarding access to technology and special circumstances for students unable to access online learning.

If the strike is broken over the weekend, they will notify parents and prepare to reopen the school.

“We hope the Province of Ontario and CUPE resume discussions to avoid further strikes,” the update said. “We are monitoring the situation closely and will continue to share information with you as new developments occur. Communication will be via email, social media and the Wellington Catholic DSB website. “
