Mindtrex PSR Learning App Gains Popularity During Pandemic

Mindtrex Founder Pg Mohd Khairi (fifth R) and Progresif Director of Corporate Strategy Johan (third L) with the winners of the raffle for regular Mindtrex users held on December 31, 2021.

The Mindtrex Academy mobile learning app has reached over 6,000 users since the second wave of COVID-19 as an additional tool for students preparing for Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (PSR – Primary School Examination).

Mindtrex founder Pg Mohd Khairi Pg Hj Metussin said the startup’s mobile app – first launched in August 2020 – said the number of users increased by another 178% after schools stopped physical classes during the second wave last August.

The content of the app is based on the Ministry of Education (MoE) National Curriculum for Grades 4-6, covering the five core subjects of English, Malay, Maths, Melayu Islam Beraja and the sciences.

Regular users saw their exam performance increase by up to 131% – with 91% of active users who showed up for their PSR in 2021 scoring 3A and above.

As students in grades 4-6 are currently awaiting vaccination against COVID-19 before they can return to school, Pg Mohd Khairi said the app can help keep students progressing by engaging them in program content outside of their school-assigned online courses.

“Now they (the parents) are going back to work, they are worried that their children will have a learning deficit from not being in school; having Mindtrex can help them solve this problem,” said Pg Mohd Khairi.

The founder added that he was giving two months of free access to the app to 10,000 public school students and was also offering a 50% discount on their annual unlimited access plan for $240 (equivalent to $20 per month). The same package can also be paid monthly at $60.

Mindtrex’s MoE-approved content features over 10,000 questions and tests and over a hundred video tutorials and explanations and detailed progress reports. The app gamifies progress through leaderboards, rewards, and smart task designs.

Public school students can ask their parents to sign up for two months free access through their respective school principals.

To further encourage use of the app, Mindtrex plans to hold regular giveaways and sweepstakes for active users, recently awarding a PlayStation 5 and other electronic devices to students. Inter-school tournaments and individual competitions are also in preparation.

Pg Mohd Khairi added that they were having lunch to launch a version of Mindtrex for companies looking to onboard or train their employees. Mindtrex Executive will help employees learn about company policies and facilitate HR-related processes such as surveys and performance improvement.

Mindtrex has won numerous national ICT and entrepreneurship awards, and participates in DARe’s Accelerate startup development program and is a recipient of their matching grant.
