Indiana Southern University invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Online Learning. USI is a vibrant state public college campus, home to more than 9,750 students from 90 Indiana counties, 45 states, and 45 nations. The primary purpose of this position is to advance the goals and objectives of Southern Indiana University as outlined in the 2021-2025 Accelerating Impact Strategic Plan. The Director will provide leadership in the development and implementation of the online learning strategy for the university to include the strengthening of existing programs and the development of new cutting-edge programs that improve student success, increase tuition revenue and increase enrolment, recruitment, retention, and graduation rates. .
- Provide strategic direction for online learning at USI. Align the direction and vision for online learning with USI’s strategic plan goals to improve student success, drive impactful engagement, increase visibility and reputation, and strengthen financial sustainability. Develop new online programs and boost ongoing online programs. Define and implement goals and metrics for e-learning. Create and improve policies and procedures to ensure goals and objectives are met. Represent and lead e-learning on various academic and community committees and task forces and serve on the Provost’s Council. Develop and enhance external partnerships to develop and sustain key quality e-learning program initiatives. Including but not limited to: Emsi Burning Glass, Quality Matters, Proctorio and VoiceThread. Chair and provide vision for the USI Online Learning Council. Keep up to date with national trends in online and blended learning.
- Support the University’s strategy to increase enrollment and retention focused on online graduates and adult learners, with a focus on student support services and continuous quality improvement. Oversee student support services activities to promote enrollment and retention and remove barriers to student success. Oversee instructional design activities to promote continuous quality improvement in course and program design and development. Oversee digital marketing activities that increase the visibility of the department’s website, social media communications and other recruitment strategies.
Management and Supervision:
- Provide leadership and manage administrative staff, including instructional designers, digital marketing coordinator and student support specialist. Manage unit tax responsibilities. Maintain working relationships with faculty and key campus units. Identify and seek grants and other external funding opportunities.
Essential knowledge and skills
- A master’s degree with demonstrated excellence in higher education leadership and management experience is required. Completed terminal degree is strongly preferred. Experience leading and managing an e-learning division is required. Experience in budget management, planning and evaluation is required. Experience leading projects that include collaborations with deans, chairs and professors is required. Information technology and instructional experience in the development, delivery and support of online courses and programs is required. Strong organizational and time management skills are required. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. The ability to articulate departmental services and objectives to internal and external audiences is required. Knowledge of Emsi Burning Glass products or other data services contracted to analyze education, labor market and workforce data is preferred. Familiarity with digital marketing strategies preferred. Online teaching experience is preferred.
This is a full-time, 12-month position reporting to the Provost’s Office and located on the Evansville, Indiana campus.
