Going back to when the teaching and learning process was in its normal setup, where we saw a classroom full of students with their teacher standing in front of them, interacting face to face for meaningful discussions. But the picture of the past is now completely different from what it is now. The ongoing pandemic has brought inevitable changes, especially in the education system, these changes have led Centro Escolar University to innovations, improvements and initiatives that will help its faculty to adapt to the current online modality and delivering lessons effectively.
Born from these developments, CEU Teacher Training on Online Learning Teaching (TeTraOLT) is a series of training sessions on the production of comprehensive and effective learning modules.
âWhen the pandemic hit the country in March 2020 and schools had to be closed, the University was fortunate to have an existing and functioning Learning Management System (LMS). The University administration has decided that SY 2020-2021 will be fully flexible online mode, âexplained Dr Teresa Perez, Vice President of Academic Affairs at CEU.
Along with the management decision, they thought of a way to ensure that the teachers are able to provide good learning modules to the students through the online modality, so the TeTraOLT training was conducted.
The training was designed to have a virtual classroom once a week and an asynchronous setup for the rest of the week. During the training, CEU’s learning management system called CEU LEAPS (Learning Engagement and Proficiency System) has already been used so that teachers can learn to navigate the said platform when uploading their results. . This is also the pattern followed in the implementation of flexible e-learning.
CEU TetraOLT is not only about creating modules, but also about building teachers’ knowledge, skills and attitudes in online classroom management, which includes motivating and engaging students through reinforcements positive learning, interactive activities and online student performance reviews.
Faculty members also offer study guides that follow the pre-task, task, and post-task format. Training begins with the recalibration of programs, results to goals, learning strategies and assessments.
The training which includes topics on lesson planning management, technical skills and ethics is organized before the opening of the new school year so that teachers can already complete the necessary modules and make them available on the first day. class, which makes it less stressful for them. Learning to navigate the CEU LEAPS also gives them the confidence they need in online education.
For the CEU TeTraOLT 2 conducted this summer, another training program was designed to help teachers improve and enrich the modules.
