10 Minute School, Bangladesh’s largest learning app, has raised $2 million in seed funding from Surge, Sequoia India’s rapid deployment program. This investment makes 10 Minute School the first EdTech company in Bangladesh to secure funding from Surge. The tech startup plans to use these funds to invest in acquiring products, technology and talent in Bangladesh and India.

Founded by Ayman Sadiq and Abdullah Abyad Raied in 2015, 10 Minute School’s mission is to democratize education for all in Bangladesh. Access to quality teachers is one of the oldest challenges for students across the country. Much of the education development is still concentrated around the capital, Dhaka and a few major cities, resulting in poor educational infrastructure for the rest of the country. Moreover, the best coaching centers and private tutors are not affordable for the mass student population due to socio-economic barriers.

This is where 10 Minute School comes in. This first mobile e-learning platform bridges the gap between aspirations and opportunities by delivering affordable, accessible and highly relevant educational content to 25 million students and students, from college admissions test takers to university and job seekers. , and people looking for specialized training. Around 7% of 10 Minute School’s audience is based in India.

Instead of serving out-of-the-box product functionality, the team constantly interacts with its students to understand their pain points in order to create tailor-made solutions. Students in grades 1-12 can advance their learning using resources such as videos, practice exams, lesson sheets and notes that have been developed by experts over the years. Those looking to improve their career have access to various courses such as spoken English, Microsoft Excel and corporate training.

2021 marked a year of significant growth for 10 Minute School, with over 9 million new learners joining the platforms, 8 million hours of learning delivered and over 17,000 additional new videos added to its learning ecosystem. The app recently surpassed 3 million users, making it the largest learning app in the country.

“We have seen unprecedented 12x business growth on our platform in 2021 during the pandemic, and our users have also praised the app and its learning content. Joining Surge from Sequoia Capital India as the first investor has been a very rewarding experience for the team, further validating our vision to democratize access to high quality education for all in Bangladesh. We want to double our growth trajectory this year while creating an unparalleled learning experience for our students,” said Ayman Sadiq, Founder and CEO, 10 Minute School.

The pandemic has boosted online education in Bangladesh, with offline institutions and exams suspended since the start of 2020. To ensure students can continue learning despite the lockdown, the company has launched some of its first courses and premium books during this period.

Today, the platform has more than 25,000 courses and skills courses prepared by some of the best instructors and professionals in Bangladesh. It offers a personalized learning path for students with the ability to test their learning from a bank of over 50,000 quizzes and additional resources such as flashcards, audiobooks and notes.

In Q1 2022, the company plans to launch live coaching classes for students in grades 5-12, test paper classes for HSC and SSC candidates, comprehensive admissions and BCS programs, a whole series of interactive academic books for grades 3-12 and 25 most sought-after advanced courses.

10 Minute School sees a huge opportunity to help support the country’s existing education system, which now has 43 million students. The team also aspires to help improve the skills of its large youth population of 5 million, which will lead to increased employment and demographic dividends for the country.

10 Minute School is part of Surge’s sixth cohort of 20 companies creating more innovative and smarter solutions to help consumers and businesses adapt to a changing world.

The company was founded in July 2015 in Bangladesh by Ayman Sadiq, a globally recognized educator with a number of national and international awards to his credit. Ayman laid the foundation for 10 Minute School in 2014 when he started creating free online videos that went viral. Abdullah Raied, a second founder with a passion for sustainable products, joined as a co-founder in 2021. He was part of an industrial automation startup that created a data-driven agricultural ecosystem in Bangladesh. 10 Minute School is looking to hire passionate, technology and product-focused experts in Bangladesh and India, to join them on this journey of transforming the country’s education ecosystem.
